The official lego instagram now has a quickie tour of Hogsmeade and it in turn includes a teaser that we'll be seeing a Knockturn Alley set next July. The timing would indicate it's not part of a future D2C, but their line of smaller Diagon Alley stores.

And still more HP lego news! We have our first picture of a rumoured second Harry Potter theme GWP. Unfortunately rumour also has it this might be a GWP only available with purchase of the Collectors' Edition Burrow, but for anyone who might be interested, the Australian lego store has posted an entry for the lego themed Weasley family clock 🕰️. I've no clue if it will stay online, so the relevant information is provided below the fold.Read more... )

It seems the LEGO House Instagram account briefly posted promotional material today for an upcoming event celebrating the release of the LEGO Harry Potter 76437 the Burrow - Collector's Edition (2405 pieces, 10 minifigures, 259,99 Euro (expected retail price)), as the post has since been removed. Fortunately Jay's Brick Blog snagged the photo, and the ever lovely people at StoneWars.de have signal boosted appropriately. Shout outs to both, woohoo! 😘

Luckily, this little oopsie doozy gives us our first good look at the Burrow Direct to Customer (D2C) set since the leak from the Chilean lego dealer inadvertently provided us with a small peek a few weeks ago. Read more... )

It looks like some parts of Europe will be getting their own "build a lego Harry Potter freebie" in the weeks to come in the form of a small Hogwarts Express set to build and keep.

On the 4th and 5th of September, from 3 to 5 pm, the German, Austrian and Swiss lego stores are expected to have their own Back to Hogwarts event with a little Hogwarts Express. Contact your local store to see if they're participating. Supplies are limited, first come, first serve, and only one engine per person. Read more... )

If you miss out, don't worry. It looks like it's only 43 pieces, and unlike this year's Barnes & Noble build, none of them are exclusive.

And now we have an update on the portraits. The expected Salazar Slytherin portrait has made an appearance, and we have two new portraits as well. Read more... )

That's all for now. I'll keep you posted.

We have a first look at the Collectible Portrait tiles we'll see in some of the 2024 sets thanks to Falcon Fan at Falcon Bricks.

IMG_3126.jpeg

Top row: sample mystery tile (see below), Jocunda Sykes, Rowena Ravenclaw, possibly Maud Montague (see below), Basil Fronsac, Sir Cadogan

Bottom row: Helga Hufflepuff, Edessa Sakndenberg, Godric Gryffindor, possibly Temeritus Shanks (see below), Damara Dodderidge, possibly Amrose Swott (see below)

So, my best guesses... In the top row, given the other three Founders' presences, I think it's a good bet the mystery portrait is a stand-in for Salazar Slytherin. For the fourth in that row, the only portrait that came close to the Snow White look (and who knows, maybe it is Snow White, although Sleeping Beauty would have made more sense given the Draught of Living Death) is Maud Montague.

As for the second row, the only portrait I could find with an owl, and a white owl at that, is Temeritus Shanks. Now he's pretty much a Voldemort shade of white and not black in that portrait, but then I'd argue Edessa Sakndenberg wasn't originally a POC either, so that probably doesn't rule him out either. At the end of the row, the redhead with the beard might be Amrose Swott. Contrary to what the Weasleys and Susan Bones might lead one to believe, there weren't all that many gingers amongst the portraits. I couldn't find the significance to the map either, nor any mention of Prewett or Weasley portraits, and the only Bones portrait mentioned is of a witch, which leaves us with Swott or perhaps a younger Dumbledore. It's worth considering that the portrait appears to be asleep, as we often hear Albus' is, and the style of beard more closely resembles his than Swott's. The de-aging might be their way of avoiding placing an emphasis on the character's death. Or maybe the unknown / uncertain portraits are of lego designers. They've done that in the past, especially in the Transfiguration Moment set.

But I'm open to suggestions as to who those portraits might be.

Distribution of the portraits in the 2024 lego Harry Potter winter wave sets:
Hagrid's Hut: 2x
Hogwarts Castle Boathouse: 1x
Hogwarts Castle Owlery: 1x

We've seen Dobby and the Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes pix already, now we've got a peek for you at the remaining four sets. I'm still expecting the full reveal sometime today, because you don't release the first ever Battle of Hogwarts set the week of the 25th anniversary of the BoH without somehow reflecting that fact, darn it. (Or if you do, you need fire your marketing peeps and come speak to Ginger, just saying.)Read more... )

Probably in response to the leaked WWW photos, we now have an official reveal of 76422 Diagon Alley: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes $89.99 / £84.99 / 84.99 EUR | 834 pieces (8+) | 7 minifigs. (HBP). Pictures below the fold. Read more... )

And that's it. I remain optimistic we'll see the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts honoured tomorrow with the reveal of at least the eponymous set. We shall see. I'll keep you owl posted.

Information has leaked on two possible future HP lego sets. I'll be upfront, I'm a little torn on this post. I'm not a member of the lego ambassadors' network, which means I don't have to follow their rules on leaks and what images can be posted and when. On the other hand, I have a great deal of affection for the brand, so rules aren't always required... I'd like to see lego flourish (& Blotts). But then again, as LJ's Harry Potter lego information source, I find it somewhat obnoxious to make people go looking for content on their own when I happen to have it lying about... Hmm. Ultimately the deciding factors here for me are probably the uncertainty of the information - if I were more confident it's true, I'd be less confident about boosting it - and the fact promobricks has now posted an article on this. Once enough other sources do, you become remiss when you don't. Simple as.

So here's the deal... A few days ago, an individual of no particular standing on the platform one way or another (the account is old, but the activity isn't, typical hallmarks both of a throwaway or a cracked account) posted on one of the lego forums that they'd been part of a lego focus group study as to the potential pricing (and interest) in future sets. This was met with resounding skepticism and the exceedingly common cries of "pix or it didn't happen" and within the last 24 hours a number of heavily watermarked pix were indeed posted to telegra.ph and instagram, and proliferated (some edited to remove those watermarks), many of which have since been taken down, and more of which are likely to follow. Since the release of the pix, rather typically the claims are being taken far more seriously. (Something that amuses me when I consider the things we got up to at uni. This would not be even a high effort prank, and it's doable from the comfort of home at no cost other than time. Just saying.) So to be clear, at best I consider it an indication of possible truth and not a definitive corroboration.Read more... )

And that's about it for this theme. One other minor point of interest: years ago, the mould for the goat broke, there hasn't been a goat figure in a lego set since 2011, and one will sell for upwards of 75 EUR on bricklink. The photos for a medieval village leaked as well, and in it we do in fact see the long awaited return of the goat. For Harry Potter fans this is relevant in as much as some of us are hoping to eventually see Aberforth Dumbledore with his Patronus. Or just a goat, for that matter. We aren't picky. 😉 (<- That's a lie, we're dreadful.)

As already mentioned, lego has published pictures of the six Harry Potter lego sets from the 1st half year of 2023. I've presented the first four House Banner sets here. The remaining two are slightly larger, more standard, non-gimmick sets of the Triwizard Tournament's Second Task and the Room of Hidden Things version of the Room of Requirement from the Battle of Hogwarts. Lego has posted pictures of 2023's 1st half year's sets on the S@H due March 1st, 2023, and they're... interesting.

The 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake (the Second Task) is more successful than I could have hoped and feels like a design triumph at the price point. Well done! The 76413 Hogwarts™: Room of Requirement (the Room of Hidden Things) is again in the 2021+ modular style, but continues to improve on 2022's trend towards bettering the exteriors of the (logically compromised) modular style. It's fairly satisfying as a castle addition on its own, which for the modular style is high praise, and as in Dumbledore's Office, it also folds open, making much better use of its footprint than the original 2021 modular editions did. And finally the four House Banner sets representing each of the House Common Rooms are something of the messy collage I'd feared. This time they've done a more satisfying job with the minifigs, however, (Hufflepuffs represent!) giving us a robe, cardigan and Quidditch jumper for each of the Houses and a better variety of figs than usual, and I love the little Grindylow. ❤️

Pic spam of the Banner sets follows. I'll be posting the other two sets later in the day... Read more... )

And that's it for now. The other two will follow later.

What If...

What if the 2022 Lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar focused on the Order of the Phoenix's Christmas at 12 Grimmauld Place in 1995? With the release of the lovely Grimmauld Place set this year and an abundance of canonical Christmas material, it seems such a shame that it didn't, so with the magic of Mecabricks, let's just pretend it did... Hey Presto!
