We now have pics of all of this winter's Harry Potter lego sets, and unfortunately official word that they won't be available until March. (The disappointment was marked.) Plenty of pics beneath the fold... Read more... )

Thing to bear in mind: the 2019 Clock Tower goes EOL at the end of this year, and is clearly being replaced with this set. It's interesting that there will be this short of a gap between releases again, much like with the 2018 Great Hall / 2021 Chamber of Secrets sets. Anyway, if you prefer the older style, pick it up while you still can.

Another thing that stands out, the catalogue doesn't include the Potions Moment set. This may mean nothing, it could just be a decision of this individual store. On the other hand, if you liked the set and don't have it yet, just keep an eye out so you don't miss your window of opportunity.

Some countries are hearing confirmations that the HP GWP will happen next week, unfortunately there's no word yet on the US. There's some consolation, however, in the event it shouldn't happen where you are: lego has announced another VIP weekend in November from the 20th to the 21st. The GWPs and specials are scheduled to be announced on the 15th. So if there isn't incentive to make your purchases next week, maybe that will help make up for it. 😊

Thanks to stonewars for the heads up.

We're getting the first hint of what lego has in store for us still this year. No concrete word yet on what it is, beyond an update that we should expect a contest of some sort, but here are some clues:

F5A5C8B7-02D1-4F9D-8E1E-9718E96E8536.png

Likely keywords: magical mischief, noses, plot, hide, dear, hearts, and possibly mystery. Hmm. When I think 'noses', I think Snape more than any other character, 'dear' could be a homonym for his deer Patronus (for that matter 'heart' is a homonym for Harry's Patronus (hart), too), 'hides' make me think of forests and hunting (both the before and grisly after...), one example of 'hidden' for me is the Sword of Gryffindor in the Forest of Dean (other than that there's the basilisk, the secret passageways, the Room of Requirement, or Grimmauld Place...), but I'm not convinced. It also has a bit of a second task ring to it... (Dear to someone's heart? A Ron maxifig to keep Harry and Hermione company?) The word 'mischief' calls the Marauder's Map to mind, and iirc, that insulted Snape's nose... Hmm.

I'm afraid there just aren't enough clues to go on yet, but I'm intrigued. You'll know more when I do. ❤️

Matthew Lewis reenacts 20 of his favourite Harry Potter scenes with lego and he's just as funny as he is cute. "You're looking good, Tom. I mean 'Draco'. Oops, sorry, mate. It's not funny falling from that height, is it? Been there..." 😆

From midnight this morning onwards for a week you can get double VIP points at the lego store. (Registering as a VIP is free and gets you a cute keychain, too. 😉 Even if you never use the points, you might, so it's worth a shot either way.) They changed the VIP system a while back making it non-trivially more complicated, but I checked it at the time and calculated the standard VIP rebate for the leading currencies all as upwards of five percent of what you spend now off your next purchase (so double means upwards of 10%), but it can be difficult to follow the base maths so 1) I'll spare you and 2) I'm not revisiting that determination regularly; exchange rates are a pain in my backside. Additionally, these rebate systems are always a little problematic. They're designed to keep you coming back, there's always a minimum amount to get that rebate, the points eventually expire... Yada yada. As systems go, lego's is far from the worst, but a straight forward discount would obviously be better. For someone who used to buy the Creator Modular sets and / or the Winter Village sets every year, it still worked out advantageously for me, and it's certainly proved even more worthwhile since the rekindling of the HP series. 😃 Mileage varies obviously. Read more... )

In other news: Target is offering the Harry and Hermione bundled maxifigure set for half price, and I'm positively green with envy. 😢 If you're in the US and these were on your shopping radar, I'd say get them now.

The first ever lego Con has been announced, scheduled for 26 June, a 90 minute live event starting at 5PM in London, 12PM New York, and 9AM Los Angeles. You can participate by clicking the link at that point in time, more (sketchy) details on what to expect beneath the fold.

(dodgy official advert / promo for the Con that makes me wonder if I'm truly going to "love it" 😆 or if I'm remotely the target audience...)

There are also a couple of new Advent Calendar pictures, here the box art:

Classrooms!

And the CRESTS, too, for that matter. 😆 (See LJ / DW for details on the Hogwarts Moments classroom books. The crests were introduced here: LJ / DW)

So! It's January! (And a very Happy New Year, everybody! 🎉😃🍀) Which means the aforementioned sets are available on the lego shop@home websites (lego.com) as of today. w00t! (Honestly, chances are pretty good you'll be stuck with a back order status if you didn't order promptly at midnight (I, for one, did not. heh), but no worries. It will get there when it gets there. So why order now? Well, if you were going to anyway, the timing is right. Lego has a number of specials on this month. (Worth keeping in mind, in some countries, you'll be able to get the classroom sets at regular stores where you're often able to get discounts. It pays to know your local market. Germany for one isn't great on sales (compared to the US, say), and this year the prices - due to delivery issues and other coronavirus factors - have pretty much echoed lego's pricing (or worse, been higher. 😐), so ordering from lego.com won't come at an additional price for me, especially given the offers they're currently running.)Read more... )

Alphabet soup? I think not! 😂

Good news, people. The German site Promobricks reports that The Monster Book of Monsters set with Draco minifig (introduced here LJ / DW) is expected to make an appearance as a Gift With Purchase come January at the Lego Shop@Home (<- less than intuitively, perhaps, that's the preferred terminology for lego.com's store half of the site). Serendipitously, that coincides with the release of the Hogwarts Moments (LJ / DW) classroom books sets (not quite a fan of the name "Hogwarts Moments"; it sounds like a chocolate or a dessert or flavoured coffee or something) and the Hogwarts Crests (LJ / DW), so that should help people make the purchase requirements. In Germany that's expected to be 75 EUR (quite a relief after the recent 150 EUR limits), and the promotion should run for the entire month of January, or as long as supplies last. Worth mentioning: the MBoM is expected to retire after this. (It's conceivable it can reappear briefly at physical stores as the 2018 Bricktober minifig collection (5005254-1) GWP did, but it isn't planned as a regular purchasable set. So if you want it, see to getting it, or resign yourself to picking it up off ebay, bricklink, brickowl & co.)

Also, good news for people in the US, some sharp eyed shoppers have spotted the Moments sets at Kohl's stores already. Not sure how they were able to jump the queue, but there it is... (I've just checked their website, and they aren't available online. If you're interested, call ahead to make sure your local store has them in stock.) So if you can't wait, you can always find them there, but for the more patient among us, or those with less access such as myself 😉, we'll (potentially) be rewarded / compensated with the MBoM opportunity come January. Fair enough, I think. 😊
