So we have first news of what awaits us during the now annual Back to Hogwarts Special Event lego has for the Harry Potter theme starting every September 1st.

The event will take place 01 - 07 September 2025, with GWPs (gifts with purchase) on offer while supplies last. Experience shows it's worth deciding what, if anything, you want in advance and acting quickly. Please note: the price thresholds for the GWPs may be off, but I'm not sure if this is the result of tariffs. Take them as ballpark figures, and we'll have to wait for official confirmation. I also think there's a good chance the pound and euro numbers are reversed. We'll know soon enough. Read more... )

If you're considering putting together an order for the GWPs, it's worth noting the Harry Potter BrickHeadz go on sale 01 September, and can be used to meet those thresholds. Even if you aren't an avid BrickHeadz collector, they're always worth a consideration for ebay as many people don't order from the lego store directly, although I'm not sure why.

In the dead of night (do they never sleep???), JB Spielwaren, a German lego store and one of my local sources for my colorful plastic habit, has posted pictures of the new Harry Potter lego Polybag, and they're far cooler than expected! (And also a cheery thanks to brickmerge.de, my hands down favorite price tracker in Germany, for the heads up that the pictures were out there.)

As we'd heard, it is in fact Quidditch themed polybag, 30651 Quidditch Practice, but contrary to previous rumors, it does not feature Ron (sorry, Ron), no, it's Cho Chang in the long desired Ravenclaw Quidditch robes at what is finally a broadly accessible price! W00t!

And w00t again!

I've never been so happy to see Cho in my life. 😆Read more... )

Now, what are the chances Cho's alternative face is sleeping? (Having already disappointed me on this count with 76411 the Ravenclaw House Banner, I'm thinking slim to none. 😆) She's still the only one of the Second Task victims / treasures / rewards we don't have a sleeping face for, and given their preferred choice of darker skin tones for her, that makes it more difficult to find a substitution that's in keeping with the other versions of her minifig. Sleeping Cho! Sleeping Cho! Sleeping Cho! Sleeping Cho! 😴💤💤💤

Lego has posted pictures of 2023's 1st half year's sets on the S@H due March 1st, 2023, and they're... interesting.

The 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake (the Second Task) is more successful than I could have hoped and feels like a design triumph at the price point. Well done! The 76413 Hogwarts™: Room of Requirement (the Room of Hidden Things) is again in the 2021+ modular style, but continues to improve on 2022's trend towards bettering the exteriors of the (logically compromised) modular style. It's fairly satisfying as a castle addition on its own, which for the modular style is high praise, and as in Dumbledore's Office, it also folds open, making much better use of its footprint than the original 2021 modular editions did. And finally the four House Banner sets representing each of the House Common Rooms are something of the messy collage I'd feared. This time they've done a more satisfying job with the minifigs, however, (Hufflepuffs represent!) giving us a robe, cardigan and Quidditch jumper for each of the Houses and a better variety of figs than usual, and I love the little Grindylow. ❤️

Pic spam of the Banner sets follows. I'll be posting the other two sets later in the day... Read more... )

And that's it for now. The other two will follow later.

What If...

What if the 2022 Lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar focused on the Order of the Phoenix's Christmas at 12 Grimmauld Place in 1995? With the release of the lovely Grimmauld Place set this year and an abundance of canonical Christmas material, it seems such a shame that it didn't, so with the magic of Mecabricks, let's just pretend it did... Hey Presto!

The calendar starts here with Day 01.
