This summer lego is introducing three different book nooks. One from the Harry Potter theme, one from the Lord of the Rings / Hobbit theme, and the third is a tribute to Sherlock Holmes. All three have a 01 June 2025 release date. Pictures of the LotR set have leaked now, so let's take a look at them, shall we? Read more... )

And that's the three new Book Nooks for you. Which, if any, are you more likely to buy? Did I miss any Easter eggs in the Sherlock Holmes set? And is it too, too frightfully obvious which set I liked best? 😆

So after my multi-paragraph whinge about the planting in the lego Harry Potter set 76445 Hogwarts Castle: Herbology Class from the 2025 summer wave, we're now seeing a preview of a new set in the Wednesday series. And why do I bring it up, you might ask? Also bearing in mind that this is the theme that brought us the adorable gargoyles last year (later used in the 2025 76453 Malfoy Manor), 76784 lego Wednesday Black Dahlia Flower is well worth mentioning in its own right (and certainly in this context) because in addition to a buildable flower (a dahlia, obvs), it includes a mini-greenhouse, also worth mentioning because that greenhouse (in stark contrast to the 2024+ Hogwarts Herbology greenhouse) contains some nice plant builds, certainly for the price. Pix have leaked of the new lego Harry Potter Winter 2025 wave set 76443 Hagrid and Harry's Motorcycle Ride with Hagrid on his motorcycle and Harry in the sidecar with a buildable Hedwig. The set with 617 pieces is due out in January 2025. Read more... )

Everyone raise your your wands in memory of a class act.😢

Actress Dame Maggie Smith dies at 89

The portrait of Professor McGonagall seen at the top of this post is a custom printed lego tile from the briquestore. As usual, I'm not an affiliate, just a fan.

A REVIEW and MOC (My Own Creation) in three parts...
This is the first in a three part series reviewing the official lego Harry Potter summer 2024 wave's 76431 Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class and introducing gingerwitch's (MOC) modification thereof.

Today we'll look at the source material, Snape's original Potions Classroom from the films, and try to nail down just what features make the room so recognisable. Like some of the rest of the castle, the classroom changed several times over the course of the films, which is part of why it can feel a little hard to "grasp". Let's take a shufti round the movie set first. Read more... )

Up next: Part Two, What the official lego set gets right and wrong about the room.

We have a first picture of this year's lego Harry Potter Christmas book. I'm not certain if this is from the DK or Ameet series, but we'll find out soon enough. It really only matters because DK tends to be overpriced, and also steal shelf space with those empty cardboard sections of the books. (Clearly not a fan. lol) On the other hand the DK books tend to have unique minifigs, and Ameet don't, or Ameet use previously released parts such that it might be a unique minifig version, but the parts could be ordered if you were unable to get the books in your area. It looks like we'll be seeing an updated version of the Harry from this year's Hagrid's hut set (hp475), except with a different head that has a smiling alt face. Read more... )

We now have the promotional material for this year's D2C in the Harry Potter lego theme, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank. This set is expected to go on sale 01 September, 2023; accordingly, it's likely they'll wait with the Vault GWP until then.

The 4803 piece set consists of two main sections, the above ground, with two buildings and a wall, and the below ground section, comprised of a very solid centre trunk section with 4 arms at the top to support the upper levels, dotted with three vaults, a number of stalactites and stalagmites, lanterns, a bat, a narrow waterfall (Thief's Downfall) and encircled by a spiral shaped track for the mine cart that takes Harry and Hagrid to Harry's vault in the first film / book. 76422 Weasleys Wizard Wheezes $89.99 | 834 pieces (8+) | 7 minifigs! (HBP) We now have a soft focus shot of the set, and some answers to the question of what we saw in the super fuzzy picture of the summer line-up that I'm attaching below. Spoil yourself at your own discretion.Read more... )

We're not expecting to see any official news on the summer sets until May, and as any good fan knows, 02 May 2023 is the canonical 25th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, so I'm hoping for a nice promotional event. (lego, are you listening?) In fact, it fits so nicely, I'll be seriously disappointed if they don't do it. Seriously, they do a "May the 4th be with you" event every year for the Star Wars fans, so I want to see some love for the Harry Potter fandom, too. Full stop. That's me, greedy, needy and oh so demanding. 😉

Official plans aside, promobricks (PB) had a German podcast on this for Easter, eurobricks' bRICKbRAT provided the missing set names, and yesterday the English promobricks (PBeng) video channel updated with the new info, and appearing more or less at the same time, an article on the German StoneWars (SW) site, with an assist from Brick_Clicker, added still more details. Unfortunately there are a few discrepancies between the versions, so I'll try to highlight them. Read more... )

And that's all the news on the sets we're expecting in the near(ish) future.

Information has leaked on two possible future HP lego sets. I'll be upfront, I'm a little torn on this post. I'm not a member of the lego ambassadors' network, which means I don't have to follow their rules on leaks and what images can be posted and when. On the other hand, I have a great deal of affection for the brand, so rules aren't always required... I'd like to see lego flourish (& Blotts). But then again, as LJ's Harry Potter lego information source, I find it somewhat obnoxious to make people go looking for content on their own when I happen to have it lying about... Hmm. Ultimately the deciding factors here for me are probably the uncertainty of the information - if I were more confident it's true, I'd be less confident about boosting it - and the fact promobricks has now posted an article on this. Once enough other sources do, you become remiss when you don't. Simple as.

So here's the deal... A few days ago, an individual of no particular standing on the platform one way or another (the account is old, but the activity isn't, typical hallmarks both of a throwaway or a cracked account) posted on one of the lego forums that they'd been part of a lego focus group study as to the potential pricing (and interest) in future sets. This was met with resounding skepticism and the exceedingly common cries of "pix or it didn't happen" and within the last 24 hours a number of heavily watermarked pix were indeed posted to telegra.ph and instagram, and proliferated (some edited to remove those watermarks), many of which have since been taken down, and more of which are likely to follow. Since the release of the pix, rather typically the claims are being taken far more seriously. (Something that amuses me when I consider the things we got up to at uni. This would not be even a high effort prank, and it's doable from the comfort of home at no cost other than time. Just saying.) So to be clear, at best I consider it an indication of possible truth and not a definitive corroboration.Read more... )

And that's about it for this theme. One other minor point of interest: years ago, the mould for the goat broke, there hasn't been a goat figure in a lego set since 2011, and one will sell for upwards of 75 EUR on bricklink. The photos for a medieval village leaked as well, and in it we do in fact see the long awaited return of the goat. For Harry Potter fans this is relevant in as much as some of us are hoping to eventually see Aberforth Dumbledore with his Patronus. Or just a goat, for that matter. We aren't picky. 😉 (<- That's a lie, we're dreadful.)

What If...

What if the 2022 Lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar focused on the Order of the Phoenix's Christmas at 12 Grimmauld Place in 1995? With the release of the lovely Grimmauld Place set this year and an abundance of canonical Christmas material, it seems such a shame that it didn't, so with the magic of Mecabricks, let's just pretend it did... Hey Presto!
