Heads up! The Back to Hogwarts sales go live right after midnight on the 1st of September (so in the night from 31 August to 1 September). The Gifts with Purchase are only available as long as supplies last, and the Harry Potter GWPs tend to go very quickly, so if you're interested, be prepared to act quickly. Really nice: the GWPs are stackable, so you could conceivably get three of them. 😃 As previously reported, the Draco in the Forbidden Forest Polybag is available with qualifying purchases upwards of $40 / 40 EUR; with qualifying purchases upwards of $130 / 130 EUR, you'll receive the Borgin & Burkes Floo Network set as well; and you'll get the collectible Weasley Clock, too, if you order the Collectors' Edition of the Burrow.

As an added bonus, as part of what's shaping up to be a yearly B2H celebration, many Harry Potter lego sets and accessories are eligible for double VIP (Insiders) points, which equates to a discount off a future purchase of roughly 10% of the current purchase's price. I know that's a complicated way to put it, but it basically boils down to this: if you purchase $100 worth of qualifying items during the 2x event, you could redeem your points to get a $10 discount off a future purchase. Or the points can be redeemed for a variety of exclusive lego sets and collectibles for that matter. In fact... there just so happens to be a special lego Harry Potter reward available only for Insiders via the rewards section...Read more... )

And still more HP lego news! We have our first picture of a rumoured second Harry Potter theme GWP. Unfortunately rumour also has it this might be a GWP only available with purchase of the Collectors' Edition Burrow, but for anyone who might be interested, the Australian lego store has posted an entry for the lego themed Weasley family clock 🕰️. I've no clue if it will stay online, so the relevant information is provided below the fold.Read more... )

And we now have some great pix of the 2024 lego Harry Potter theme gift with purchase (GWP)! Amusingly enough, it also solves the question of "Just what should Floo powder look like?" that [livejournal.com profile] erexen and I were discussing only yesterday. How's that for timing, huh? (It looks like we were right about transparent fluorescent acid green... 😆)Read more... )

I'm definitely looking forward to this set. 😃

Next winter's Harry Potter lego winter wave is expected to include 76441 Hogwarts Castle: Duelling Club - $24.99 with 158 pieces. At that piece count and price, it's unlikely to be a module like the 76431 HC: Potions Class was, so what might be in store for us? Along these lines, it might be best to turn to another licensed property for an indication. Read more... )

So in this winter's lego Harry Potter winter 2024 wave, we got a cute little Ford Anglia set (lego 76424 Flying Ford Anglia - 165 pieces $15 | 15 EUR | £13). And as part of this summer's lego Harry Potter summer 2024 wave, we're getting a suitably terrifying Aragog set (76434 Aragog in the Forbidden Forest - 195 pieces $20 | 20 EUR | £18). While I love that they're actually producing small sets for the theme that can make a nice little present without breaking the bank, I have to ask: why didn't we get the first ever battered Ford Anglia from the scene with Aragog? All told, there have been 5 regular and one microscale Ford Anglias in sets in the 23 years of lego Harry Potter sets, and not one of them has been the mangled version we see at the end of CoS. (And that's not counting the nanoscale Ford Anglia builds in 2023's lego 76419 Hogwarts Castle and Grounds, 2022's 76404 lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and 2018's lego 71043 nanoscale Hogwarts Castle.) Why not? In fact, there are so few pieces required to make the change, I'd really like to know why they didn't include the pieces for both versions. If you're doing it from the outset, it's so much cheaper, and it would have barely dented the budget. Make it a dollar | Euro | pound more if that's what it takes, but they'd be giving us two builds for the price.

As this is a MOC (My Own Creation), there are certain considerations to make it more successful, and I'll explain those in more detail beneath the fold. Read more... )

We have more pix from the summer 2024 wave lego Harry Potter 76431 Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class - 397 pieces ($40)! Including a peek at the set folded together... The rear of the box gives us one look at it; the last picture here shows how it would slot into the 76435 Great Hall set. What to note about it: unlike the lavatory and the Hufflepuff Common Room, the set is then closed when folded together. The door can face outwards, however, so it isn't that it doesn't make sense, but it effectively can only be viewed or played with when it is not in the Great Hall set. given the number of people who complain about the inaccessibility or unplayablity (that's totally a word) of the 2021+ modular sets, I think I can predict that will meet with some displeasure. In as much as it won't collect as much dust, I can't say I mind it too much. The sliding feature means the modules are easily removed, the primary issue there is most of the ones they've designed are too open and prone to dust collecting, and storage of the modules is going to be an issue, particularly as they aren't stackable.

There are two 1 x 3 flat tiles on the centre base plate, presumably the opposite side we can't see uses the 1 x 3 jumper plate with two studs. This permits us to anchor the workbenches in a fashion that's easily removed to push it forward or set them off to the side for easier access for play.

There's a clip visible in the ingredients bench that doesn't make too much sense unless it's used to anchor the bench when the set is folded closed. There's a section of brick extending out from one of the arches to the left of the centre plate. On the box front art, it holds the new yellow flask piece, although that's more clearly visible in the first set up of the set somewhat further below. Snape's lectern rests on these bricks when the classroom is folded together. I don't believe it's used to hold the folded set closed, because I think it would need to extend into the massive cauldron's space to do so. That cauldron definitely seems brick built. I'm wondering why that was deemed preferable to the large cauldron piece they have?Read more... )

So we have leaked pictures of the boxes, which of course means they aren't great. Let that guide your decision to view beneath the fold or not. One of the things its sufficient to provide us with, however, are the names of the thus far unidentified students in the Great Hall. (Hint that means, yes, they are named characters.) If that's sufficient to entice you... Read more... )

Thanks to @cmf6169_leaks from IG who found the pix, except for Aragog which they got from the ever reliable Brick Clicker. Much appreciated!

Up next, this year's Christmas book...

We have the first photos of the Summer 2024 lego Harry Potter sets! They're of mixed quality but good enough to give you an idea of what's coming. Having seen them, I feel comfortable making decisions on whether or not I'm likely to purchase the sets anyway.

I got the photos from chaos_lego on an instagram mirror (I'm still stubbornly refusing to give IG my phone number 😆), but they didn't mention where they got them from, so I've no idea where these originated. At least two of the pictures had a watermark from fateful_lego, but I wasn't able to confirm them as a source either. *shrug* As the pix match the description we had last month, I think the chances are very good that these are accurate. Keep in mind, they're unconfirmed, spoilers and not official quality, so proceed beyond the fold with caution. Read more... )

News on the summer Harry Potter lego lineup!

And a bit of news on the summer 2024 wave of Harry Potter lego sets has leaked from Poland! (I believe it's a general lego blog / fan site along the lines of stonewars or promobricks, but as the name and subtitle are in a picture, I'm unable to just run the translator over it.) As with all news we get at this time of year, it's provisional and there will likely be some changes, but the source has been deemed fairly reliable by a few individuals I've known for a while and trust. (FOMO is unfortunately a contaminant; I've held off reporting to wait for the additional confirmation as I was unfamiliar with the original source, fanklockow.pl.) Generally something like this tends to be based on someone's description of a fuzzy picture, or their description of someone's description (like promobricks attempting to describe the Gringotts vaults last year... Chinese whispers, ftw!), so the things that are most likely to be mistaken are the names of minifigs included (like the time Yaxley was mistaken for Lucius Malfoy in the Ministry of Magic set) or small details. We now have pictures of this year's lego Harry Potter Polybag, and on the heels of last year's Cho in her Quidditch kit, it's frankly a little unexpected, although it makes more sense looking at some of the older ones. I think it won't be unwelcome, however, especially for people new to the theme.Read more... )

JBSpielwaren have posted pictures of the winter wave! Woohoo!

IMG_7656.jpeg

Pictures below. I don't think they should be labelled as spoilers as these are basically the final, excellent quality pix, the set boxes, however, are missing a few details like piece counts, so it's conceivable, if not highly probable, that there could be a few other changes as well. Everything is below the fold if you'd like to see the new sets, sorted by the expected prices. Read more... )

And we have them! Set names and rudimentary descriptions of the Lego Harry Potter theme's winter 2024 wave! It's largely remakes / reimaginings, which this far into an evergreen theme with minimal new source material was to be expected. Fair dinkum. I do think they've missed a trick or two by not exploring scenes they haven't visited before, but it sounds like they have some ideas to keep things interesting, so let's take a closer look... We've got the first pictures of two of the autumn sets now from a Japanese catalogue, and they're both pretty good! The new micro-nanoscale Hogwarts, 76419 lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle & Grounds, and 76418 the 2023 lego Harry Potter Advent Calendar, both with an expected 01 September release date. (It's just a picture of the front of the Advent Calendar's box, and we've already seen the minifigs from an earlier leak, but think twice before spoiling yourself by clicking through.) Read more... )

And there's another leak! 76421 Dobby the (buildable) House Elf $39.99 $29.99 or 29.99 EUR | 403 pieces (8+) Dobby comes with Riddle's Diary and Harry's sock, Aunt Petunia's cake is included as well, in case he has need of troub. I have to allow, Dobby turned out cuter than I was expecting. (CoS) Read more... )
