JBSpielwaren have posted pictures of the winter wave! Woohoo!

Pictures below. I don't think they should be labelled as spoilers as these are basically the final, excellent quality pix, the set boxes, however, are missing a few details like piece counts, so it's conceivable, if not highly probable, that there could be a few other changes as well. Everything is below the fold if you'd like to see the new sets, sorted by the expected prices.

Lego 76424 Flying Ford Anglia - $14.99 (165 pieces) - The Ford. (Again.) Minifigs: Harry and Ron, plus a Hedwig and Scabbers. It's the 'return to Hogwarts' scene from the beginning of CoS. As I've said in the past, it's a shame they didn't go with the battered Ford from the end of CoS for a change of pace. That really seems like a missed opportunity. Why not do something new while you're at it if you can?

It is, however, nice to see affordable sets for kids in the theme. I appreciate that and really missed it last year.

Lego 76425 Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive - $19.99 (337 pieces) Buildable school trunk and street sign with a very posable Hedwig perched on top. Hedwig reminds me of this year's Dobby, and I assume that's intentional as a further instalment in the buildable creatures line. The maxi-sized History of Magic text is an interesting inclusion as the course was ignored in the films. (Side note that amuses me, the design of the book cover seems strongly reminiscent of the Chinese Harry Potter lego rip off / fake minifigs that came with 2x2 tile "textbook" accessories, so the, uh, design borrowing would appear to go both ways.) There's also a buildable wand with box, and a new photo tile of baby Harry with his parents.

Lego 76432 Forbidden Forest: Magical Creatures - $29.99 (172 pieces) Minifigs: Hermione and Ron, plus a Buckbeak (or generic Hippogriff), baby Thestral, winking Pixie, glow in the dark spider, and bat. There's a new tree design and change in colour palette, glow in the dark mushrooms which are kind of cool, and a way of attaching the builds via clips to enable the making of a fairy ring. The clips are a new thing for this wave, appearing in at least the Boathouse set as well. While I think it does a nice job of capturing the nighttime feel of the forest, I'm not entirely sure I like the idea of a new tree style in the midst of my collection of trees, so I'm still on the fence on that count. This set could also have been improved by the inclusion of a unicorn instead of another Buckbeak, and it really should have had a centaur, more specifically Firenze, particularly as we have Harry, Malfoy and Fang in the Hagrid's Hut set.

Lego 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse - $37.99 (350 pieces) Minifigs: Harry, Hermione, Dean Thomas, Neville Longbottom and Professor McGonagall, which is one more minifig than we'd expected (w00t!), plus a fish, spider, Trevor the frog (in what I believe is an all new colour), a crab, and Hedwig. The boathouse with two small buildable boats in a PS/SS 'arrival at Hogwarts' scene. They're the unsorted Hogwarts uniforms, so a simple head / hair swap can give us new characters. First: grey roofs are back! Secondly, the set has the same dimensions as the modular Hogwarts sets, but unlike the modular sets, it makes use of the same clips we see in the Forbidden Forest set. Thirdly, it's raised on 'rocks', which makes perfect sense to give us the height the boats need, but it makes me wonder if the next line of Hogwarts sets will also be on rocks. Then again, the CoS was raised and is part of the mega-Hogwarts, so this can probably replace the rudimentary boathouse structure in that set. Fourthly, we have a new 'Chocolate Frog Card' type of collectible tile gimmick, potentially even cooler, in the form of an unspecified portrait. I can't wait to see them. Fifthly, there's a hidden compartment, good for stashing the parts that might otherwise get lost (the crab, their wands), that reminds me of the early Harry Potter / Hogwarts sets in a nice way. Sixthly, I think this is the first inclusion of a tree made with the new fern piece in the HP theme. They're kind of neat. Seventhly, Professor McGonagall comes with a list of the four students. NEW LOCATION that enables us to re-create an iconic DH scene, similar to how the Astronomy Tower set pretended to be about a scene from early in HBP instead of the one at the end with which everyone actually associates the Tower.

All in all a cute build, but I'm not convinced about the turret design or the colours used for it, though.

Lego 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery - $44.99 (364 pieces) Minifigs: Harry, caretaker Argus Filch and Cho Chang. NEW LOCATION! The Owlery complete with 5 owls (one of which is the new baby owl piece I'm just going to dub Pigwidgeon), an additional unprinted owl as part of the architecture / a statue, a spider, a rat, owl biscuits with box, a broom, and the new tree style made of fern parts. OotP It's the only Castle build so far with snowy roofs, so that might look strange when placed amongst the rest, I can't say I dislike it on its own, however. It might be neat if the next version of Hogwarts was a winter one. The size is still in keeping with the modular Hogwarts sets, although here again we have a grey roof. It will be interesting to see how they continue things come the summer 2024 wave. This set comes with a collectible portrait as well, although the need to include it in the build itself is a bit strange.

Lego 76428 Hagrid's Hut: An Unexpected Visit - $74.99 (896 pieces) Minifigs: Hagrid, Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Fang the dog (!) and Norbert(a) the dragon. PS/SS The cottage with Fang's doghouse as a small side build. I love Hagrid in his apron and the Fang and Norbert(a) pieces, and the stump for Draco to climb on to peer in the window is a nice touch. Hagrid's Barcalounger is a funny detail, there's also a table with a chair, plus a human minifig sized armchair. There's a fire to hatch the dragon's egg, a couple of cupboards, Hagrid's umbrella, and what I assume may be rock cakes; I'll need to see that piece up close. The build is interesting, with removable roofs, and an unfolding hut design to allow for access.

This set should include two collectible portraits, only one of which appears to be hung in the set. 😆

Well, for me, and I know this opinion differs, I'd rather they stick with the sand green roofing styles, as the gray is so prevalent a color in so many other build aspects and character outfits. I get the nice addition of the lower priced kid builds but too cartoonish for me on Hedwig. Honestly tired of the Anglia, wish it were as you mentioned, the gone wild version that rescues the boys. Also of the opinion that a unicorn and Firenze would have been Far better than yet another hippogriff and why yet another Weasel?!. Absolutely adore the new Norbert(a), nice different Trevor color & cool Pig, more torso sweaters, and another Slytherin uniform. Happy to have the Owlery, though the one we built previously might have been better, and why another Filch? Give me another new student or teacher for cryin' out loud. Boathouse could have been a wonderful new build, but sincerely just meh.

Thank you for sharing the news & updates, and your thoughts and views are valued.
