The new Diagon Alley set...
May. 18th, 2024 08:04 pmWeasley's Wizard Wheezes! It's official!
May. 1st, 2023 05:50 pmAnd that's it. I remain optimistic we'll see the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts honoured tomorrow with the reveal of at least the eponymous set. We shall see. I'll keep you owl posted.
The 76420 Triwizard Tournament: The Black Lake (the Second Task) is more successful than I could have hoped and feels like a design triumph at the price point. Well done! The 76413 Hogwarts™: Room of Requirement (the Room of Hidden Things) is again in the 2021+ modular style, but continues to improve on 2022's trend towards bettering the exteriors of the (logically compromised) modular style. It's fairly satisfying as a castle addition on its own, which for the modular style is high praise, and as in Dumbledore's Office, it also folds open, making much better use of its footprint than the original 2021 modular editions did. And finally the four House Banner sets representing each of the House Common Rooms are something of the messy collage I'd feared. This time they've done a more satisfying job with the minifigs, however, (Hufflepuffs represent!) giving us a robe, cardigan and Quidditch jumper for each of the Houses and a better variety of figs than usual, and I love the little Grindylow. ❤️
Pic spam of the Banner sets follows. I'll be posting the other two sets later in the day... ( Read more... )
And that's it for now. The other two will follow later.

Brickset has put the 2018 and 2022 sets side by side for comparison. Wow.
The engine, tender and one carriage stand in front of a section of Platform 9 and 3/4, with four scenes from different years / books / movies re-created throughout the model. There are four quotes to accompany those scenes, three light bricks to illuminate them (in a lego first) and a massive ticket for the Express.
( Read more... )Bottom line: this is a beautiful set, if not for everyone, but that's alright; the price tag alone would have seen to that. It's not a bad thing to design for a more diverse set of customers, it can only strengthen the theme. If it's not the set you were hoping for, no worries, experiments like this only go to show they're very likely to get to it eventually. Anything is possible, just have some faith. Luckily for us, this is shaping up to be a marathon and not a sprint. All in all from this fan's perspective, a very welcome addition to the lego Harry Potter theme's product line. Well done! Keep up the good work.
LEGO 76405 Hogwarts Express
Jun. 4th, 2022 04:51 pmSome highlights from the promobricks article by Max Börnicke.
Max reports that the rumours are true, later this year lego will release 76405 Hogwarts Express, a collector's edition version of the Wizarding World's iconic train to Hogwarts. It'll run a gobsmacking cost of almost 500 EUR here, but there's a selection of exclusive minifigures, with 20 figs in total, and the 9 3/4 train station included to soften the blow. Promobricks has kindly compiled all the details for us... ( Read more... )
Release slated for September 2022.
Hogwarts: History of Magic
Jul. 27th, 2021 06:42 pm
The most exciting thing about Professor Binns' History of Magic class is the fact he's a ghost, which is a bit sad really, because one might think the goblin wars were an interesting period, but no. Not the way he tells it. Unfortunately in addition to his wanting delivery, he also doesn't seem to believe in light or heat, leaving students to take matters into their own hands. That doesn't always end well. Luckily Blaise knows just the right spell. ( Read more... )

Contrasting it with the original SEC,

we see the Moments version has gained in height and shortened in both the width of the central piece (from 10 to 4 studs) and the sides, but it's a strong contender as set design goes. (One guess as to what I'll be doing with the extra pieces from that Potions set I ordered last week. 😆) Headcanon: they wouldn't need the ladder at all (what are wands for?), except Narcissa is too nearsighted to read the titles on the upper shelves and too vain to wear specs. 😉

I think I'm going to try to take a shot at widening the set while attempting to keep the book format, and perhaps there'll be room for those armchairs while I'm about it (to say nothing of the Caol Ila...😉).

Given the Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales and Christmas shopping, this seems a useful list to cobble together. This is an attempt to list all the sets from the current series of Harry Potter lego, by year of release, with notes as to which sets are officially retired already or should retire soon, the books / movies they represent, and the minifigs included in the sets.
As for anything that hasn't been listed as "retired" or "retiring", I'd still prioritise buying the older sets off your wishlists first. Stonewars.de is the source for the information on which sets will be retiring soon or in 2021, as for the ones marked "RETIRING NOW" they are currentlydisappearing from lego stores around the world, and brickset lists them as no longer available in some countries' online lego stores. Don't panic, often you can find a recently retired set in toy stores near you, but if you want one, you need to act soon so you won't find yourself paying exorbitant prices on the resale market.
